The Belmond on Clyde Shade Structure, completed in June 2016, stands as a prominent feature within the public park at Clyde, a burgeoning community on Melbourne’s South Eastern outskirts.
This bespoke tensile membrane structure had a PVC canopy ten metres wide and eight metres deep, providing 70 square metres of shade for the picnic area. This unique and visually appealing shade structure offers a comfortable and inviting space with clear views of the playground and surrounding landscape.
The Concept
The Materials
Supported by two cantilevered Glulam posts, the structure’s most unique feature is a canopy that has been designed and constructed from PVC panels with different translucency. The tensile membrane canopy has been fabricated with alternating panels of Hiraoka HG212 (Standard) and Hiraoka HG212 HT (High Translucency) PVC fabric. This thoughtful design choice results in a striking interplay of light beneath the canopy, enhancing the overall user experience.
Further adding the premium look of the shade structure, the canopy is framed by stylish black-painted perimeter steel.
The Belmond on Clyde Shade Structure combines functionality with aesthetic appeal, making it a valued amenity for the Clyde community.
