The Opera Bar is one of the most iconic bars in Sydney, boasting unrivalled views of the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the beautiful Sydney Harbour. Keeping patrons cool on the long summer evenings, the Opera Bar umbrellas are equally iconic.
The Brief
Adding a touch of shape and aesthetic elegance to the umbrellas, the MakMax architectural umbrella model seen at the Opera Bar is our unique Centra Truncated Square shape. Midway in terms of design and aesthetics between our functional and elegant square umbrellas, and our visually appealing octagonal umbrella, the CTS model is architecturally attractive while still maximizing shade and weather protection. The CTS model can also be linked together via infill panels to create larger shaded areas.
The Materials
Designed to complement the sandstone-colored concourse of the Opera House, the Opera Bar CTS43 umbrellas are covered in Serge Ferrari Soltis 502 PVC in a Pepper color.
The umbrella frame has been upgraded to our elegant Stainless Steel model, which also offer greater corrosion protection for this harbour-side location.
The Result
The six original Opera Bar umbrellas were installed in late 2006, with six more being added in December 2014. Our installation partner for the additional units in 2014, Celmec Sydney, added a range of their own bespoke options, including Celmec’s premium under-canopy lighting and heating units, as well as misters to cool patrons on hot summer days.
To combat the squadrons of seagulls that call the harbor-side location their home, an extensive conical bird-netting was installed over the top of the umbrellas to defend the quality of the fabric against the aerial assault of the Laridae larrikins.
